Dr. Michael C. Klein

Tour Mental Coach

Michael "Doc" Klein is a Tour Mental Coach and experienced clinical psychologist with 20+ years of experience as a therapist, professor, researcher, and mentor. In 2020, Doc merged his extensive knowledge of performance psychology, counseling, and firsthand playing experience to create Kharakter Sport Psychology . He currently coaches amateur, elite junior, collegiate and active Tour players competing all over the world. His career-spanning interest in peak performance and mastery development began in 1998 with his thesis on chess masters. Over the decades, it expanded to include athletic motor learning, as well as cutting-edge innovations in elite golf strategy(DECADE), instruction (Trackman), and biomechanics. His golf knowledge is supplemented by first hand experience as a former collegiate golfer and current tournament player in MGA & NJ Golf championships.

Doc's coaching philosophy is built around three core pillars of golf performance: mental skills, golf knowledge, and identity development. What sets him apart is transforming these areas into practical, trainable skills personalized to each individual. By working closely with athletes to evaluate their current performance goals, Doc crafts customized plans to sustain consistency, build mental resilience, and enhance performance under pressure.
